Information:
The new Volvo XC60 has been available in the UK from
the end of 2008.
This vehicle has even more advanced technology compared to other similar vehicles
in its class.
It has a high emphasis on driver awareness, passenger safety and
vehicle
stability. This vehicle uses the most up-to-date method of
control by
using a Can-bussed data system to transmit digital codes between all
the
vehicle systems. It is therefore necessary to
use a vehicle specific wiring kit from Right Connections to ensure that
the vehicle's technology knows that you have connected a trailer or
caravan and can activate all the towing safety features, and also to
make sure
that the vehicles warranty is not affected in any way.
Design:
The XC60 is a large spacious vehicle with a large load area.
This along with great towing capabilities will appeal to the average
families needs.
Features:
This optional
extra is used to aid hill starts by holding the electric handbrake
brake on
for a few seconds
giving you time to move your foot from the brake
to
accelerator pedal, whilst releasing the clutch.
- Trailer Stability Program -
Tsp as it is most
commonly called monitors any swaying action that may be caused when
towing a large
trailer or caravan. It is integrated
into the vehicles Esp and can apply alternating braking pressure to
the relevant wheels in order to overcome the
"snaking effect". If it is not possible to control this moverment then all 4 wheels will be braked to slow the vehicle down.
- Adaptive Cruise Control -
ACC is available
as an option on the A4. It can read the distance to the
vehicle in
front and keep the
same preset distance away.
The vehicle will default to a specific distance setting when
towing to
compensate for
the extra
weight.
- Blindspot Information System -
Volvo's Blindspot Information System monitors the area to the sides and rear of the car and can detect the positions of other vehicle
around you. It
emits a warning should you go to change lanes and there is an another road user close by. This will automatically
turn off when ever a trailer or caravan is detected through the to towbar electrics.
- Parking Distance Control -
Any XC60 fitted
with rear parking sensors will automatically turn them off when ever a
trailer socket is
connected.
When ever a connection is made to the towing socket the fog light will be automatically cut-off. This is particually useful when towing large trailers or caravans as it eliminates the bright red glare that may be emitted.
- Self Levelling Suspension -
When ever a connection is made to the towing socket and the vehicle detects a change in weight, the automatic levelling system adjusts the the rear shock absorbers
so the vehicle will stay level and will maintain its road handling, ground clearance and headlight angle.
NOTE:
for the TSP or any other towing system to operate, the vehicle MUST
have a wiring kit fitted which allows for trailer recognition through
the central electrics. They will NOT function if a conventional by-pass
system is installed which remains invisible to the car!
